It‘s fun to say that anime got me into graphic design, because it wasn’t even the art style of anime that got me, but the connections and friendships I made through my high school anime club. When I was applying to colleges, I told myself that no matter what school I end up at, if they don’t have an anime club, I have to start one. That’s how I found myself organizing a club before I had even finished orientation.

When my time in academia was rolling to a close, I wanted to make sure that my baby of an organization was left in good hands, so I started compiling a guidebook of all that I had learned. I ended up turning my little side project into a class project for my Advanced Studio course, illustrating and orchestrating the perfect guidebook for running an anime club no matter where you are, what age you are. I wanted to make sure that somewhere out there, if there was another person like me with no clue where to start, they’d have this as a stepping stone. But ultimately, I also used this as my way to say goodbye to my legacy.
